La Banda Reciclada (Recycling Band) is a bilingual (English and Spanish) workshop for children that promotes recycling, art, and living in community. Working with found materials, participants will construct musical instruments and personalize them with their own artwork.
The workshop will be offered as a mini-camp during summer 2016 in Bloomington, Indiana. Each day we will focus on a new instrument, learning basic music skills, teamwork and creativity as we turn others’ garbage into new creations. At the end of the week we will present our inventions and our music at the Bloomington Community Farmer’s Market.
La Banda Reciclada is instructed by David Dávila Gonzalez, a songwriter, bandleader and musician from Costa Rica, and Katie Beck, an Indiana native and educational project coordinator. They have introduced La Banda Reciclada to over 500 kids in Costa Rica, Panama and Mexico, and are excited to welcome new Hoosier members to the band!
